About the Center

The Center for Analysis of Structures and Interfaces (CASI) was established in 1988 through a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF). CASI has two goals: to conduct exemplary research and to increase the number of minority scientists trained to conduct high-level scientific research.

CASI's commitment to fostering excellence in science and engineering study is manifested in its five key objectives:
  • To conduct research in a set of related projects in chemistry, physics and engineering.
  • To develop a minority graduate fellowship program to enable more students to commit to full-time study toward the doctoral degree.
  • To organize a minority undergraduate research program.
  • To identify and encourage high school teachers interested in pursuing the doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, or engineering.
  • To design a strategy to eliminate the barriers preventing full participation by minorities interested in studying chemistry, physics, and engineering.
